Facial Radiance Illuminating Moisturizer by First Aid Beauty Review

So y’all know that I have been searching high and low for an all over face illuminator. See my reviews here and  here . I’ve been wanting my skin to GLOWWWWWW! My goal has been to find a product with a golden glow versus a pearl or champagne glow. Whether or not it also has a moisturizing effect is an added bonus. Have I found a winner???

I went into Sephora and asked one of the team members for any recommendations. If you are a woman of color, you know that it’s hard to ask a white person for recommendations because a lot of times they do not take into consideration the difference in skin tones. Therefore, they will recommend products that will complement their complexions, which is completely understandable. I knew that before I asked the girl to help me, but I still asked anyway. She led me to every single product with a pearl tint. LOL! I just laughed to myself and she actually ended up directing me to a black lady who she felt would provide better assistance. I was so grateful because she hooked me up!

She introduced me to this amazing illuminator by First Aid Beauty called Facial Radiance Illuminating Moisturizer (retail price: $34)! I swatched it on the back of my hand and my face should have turned into the heart eye emoji because that’s literally how I felt. I was immediately in love! All I could see was the perfect golden glow on my hand and I couldn’t WAIT to apply it to my face!

Scroll down to read the rest of the review…

The next time I did a full face, I tried it out! If you look at the pictures below, you see that there is a brush applicator attached to the tube to make for easy application. I actually do not use the brush to apply it to my face. I place a couple of dots on my forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin and then rub it in with my hands and then blend it with a wet Beauty Blender. Pictures really don’t catch the glow, but, the glow is THERE! It is stunning! My skin was radiant and (even though my skin is generally blemish free) it smoothed out the appearance of my skin.

It’s a lightweight moisturizer, which really isn’t enough for my dry skin. That’s not a big deal to me. I just apply Aquaphor before applying this. After I applied this, I continued with my makeup routine by applying bb cream all over my face and the rest of my makeup.

I think I can end my search for an illuminator because I do believe I’ve found a winner! I definitely rate this product a 5 on a 1 to 5 scale!

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer • Radiance | Review + Swatches

I have been searching high and low for a product that will give me that lit from within glow. I have used the NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator in Pure Gold and it pretty much gives me the look I’m going for. However, I have not been 100% satisfied, so I’ve been trying to find another option.

Last week Sephora had the 20% off sale for VIB and VIB rouge members. I figured that would be the perfect time to stock up on some products and try out some new ones. I went into Sephora and asked for some recommendations. It didn’t matter to me whether the product had moisturizing properties or if it was just to be applied on top of a moisturizer. I just needed a glow. The lady recommended the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in Radiance, among others. I thought I would start with the Laura Mercier one. It sells for $36.

The product is a lightweight, creamy gel. It isn’t a moisturizer, so you should apply over your moisturizer, but under your foundation. Once the product set, my skin still felt dry. However, it did reduce the appearance of imperfections. The illuminating effect has a pearl tint, which on my skin tone made me look ashy. The tint is more suitable for fairer skin tones.

Overall, this product did not work for me since it felt dry and the pearl tint made my skin look drier. But, this product is still a good product and if you have fair skin and are looking for a product that gives you a light glow, this is the one for you!

NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator | Review + Swatches

During the spring, I was on the prowl for the perfect illuminators, bronzers, and highlighters! I found some goodies which I have reviewed here, here, and here over the past few months. My favorite one so far would have to be the Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop by Becca Cosmetics. I reviewed it a couple of weeks ago. It’s my favorite because I just feel so sexy when I wear it! My face just GLOWS and SHIMMERS! It’s an amazing product.

Anyway, this post isn’t about that highlighter. This one is about the NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator in Pure Gold. It sells for $7.49 for 0.6 oz at Ulta. I purchased this during the same trip to Ulta when I purchased the Lorac bronzer (another fave) a few months ago.

When I first tried this product, I didn’t like it because it didn’t have any noticeable shimmer and, at the time, I was looking for a product with shimmer. I used it a couple of times back in March and forgot about it after the Lorac bronzer gave me the look I was going for. Last week, I came across this product in one of my makeup bags and decided I would give it another try. That decision turned out to be a good one!

Although this product has very little shimmer (only noticeable when I swatch it), it still glows! Just look at the picture below! As you can see, the name of the color is on point! It is pure gold on my cheekbones and that pure gold gives just the right amount of pop that I like when I’m trying to be chill but also do a little something extra with my makeup.

How beautiful is this glow!?!

To apply this product, I applied a very small amount to my fingertip and then just blended it in. The product is sheer, which makes it buildable. However, you really do not need a lot of product to achieve a beautiful glow. I’ll use this illuminator when I’m not trying to really have my cheekbones stand out, but I still want a subtle glow.

Is that shimmer even worth noting? I don’t think so!

Have you tried this product before? What were your thoughts?

Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminator Review + Swatch

I was excited to come across this product on sale in Target a couple of weeks ago.  I have been wanting to try an illuminator that looks good on my complexion, isn’t too shimmery, and doesn’t break my skin out. So, for the price, I thought this would be good to try out.

First things first, I purchased this product in the color Bronze Light. Second, a little goes a longggg way. Two to three drops are enough to cover the tops of your cheekbone and around your eye. I am not sure if it is because of my medium to deep skin tone, but I do not feel like there is a lot of shimmer in this product. I barely notice it on my skin. I feel like I am literally just applying it and putting product on my face for no reason. I’m pretty disappointed, but maybe one day I will find a good illuminator. I may end up trying the illuminators and highlighters from Becca…I’ve heard nothing but great reviews from their products. I just have a hard time spending that kind of money for a product I will not wear very often.

Showing the difference between the product fresh out of the tube (thick line) and it rubbed in (bottom). As you can see, there is really no shimmer in this product. 😦

This product is no longer available on Target’s website, but it can be purchased here from Amazon.

What face illuminator would you recommend? Let me know in the comments.
