So Choix Subscription Box Review | October 2016

I had never heard of So Choix until a couple of weeks ago when I was scrolling through the WordPress reader and saw a fellow blogger’s post about it. I immediately fell in love with the concept because you are able to select the samples you would like to receive each month. I also like that the samples are from designer brands such as Tom Ford, NARS, Gucci, etc. These brands are normally not featured in other beauty subscriptions. Another positive is how each sample is packaged. They are placed in the appropriate applicators by hand and sent straight to your front door. You receive enough of the product to really get in there and try it out and see if it’s a good fit for you. You get all of this for $15 a month! I think it’s totally worth it because now I’ll be able to try out products from brands I wouldn’t normally try out.

Alright, let’s see what products I received!

I really like how the samples come in the cute applicators! For the ones that are in the pans, they included a lip brush and shadow brush to apply those! I also appreciate the list of samples included in my box because I forgot what I chose! Lol!

Bobbi Brown Sparkle Eyeshadow – All Spice, $33.00

This eyeshadow is so beautiful in the pan! It’s a rich brown shade with golden glitter. I have gotten spoiled to ColourPop’s soft super shock shadows, so I was surprised when I went to apply this shadow and it crumbled. I also expected the color to be a little more vibrant. I had to apply several swipes to get this swatch on my hand. I definitely will not purchase this full size product.

Giorgio Armani ‘Rouge Ecstasy’ Lipstick – 402 Teatro, $37.00

Don’t mind my brows! LOL!

Let’s talk about this red lipstick! OMG! I am in L-O-V-E! This true red shade looks amazing on me! It’s so smooth and moisturizing on your lips! I am going to see how it wears for an extended period of time before I purchase the full size product. But, right now, I think I will be shelling out the $37.00 for this lipstick!

YSL ‘Gloss Volupte’ Lip Gloss – 104 Prune Organdi, $32.00

This lip gloss is quite amazing! It is a lightweight, non-sticky lip gloss. You can’t tell from the picture, but the shade is a sheer deep purpler with golden specks in it. As much as I love this gloss, I highly doubt I’ll be paying $32 for the full size!

NARS Velvet Lip Glide – Toy, $26.00

I really loved this shade! As you can see it’s a brownish purple shade, which is really beautiful on my complexion! The formula glides on smoothly and has a very glossy finish, even though the product description says it’s semi matte. It is also slightly sticky, but not too sticky where it is unwearable. I can’t say whether or not I will pay the $26 for the full size product. But, I will wear this sample until I run out! LOL!

Chanel Illuminating Makeup Base, $48.00

I really cannot say a lot about this product since I only applied it to my hand for this photo. I did notice that it felt very moisturizing when I rubbed it in. Hopefully, I will be able to give this product a full review soon!

ipsy “Pretty in #ipsyPink” Glam Bag | February 2016

My ipsy bag is here! I was actually pretty excited about it because I really wanted the actual bag! It’s so cute! It has a beaded look to it with a white envelope on the front, sealed with a red heart. The back is pink, which fits into the theme.

The theme this month is “Pretty in #ipsyPink.” I wasn’t really excited about that because it let me know that the majority of the products would have a pink theme and I am not a big fan of the color pink. lol! Especially not pink shades in makeup. They never really look good on my skin tone.

This month I was introduced to four new brands. This is definitely something I appreciate from ipsy. I’m always finding out about new brands. The total value of this bag is approximately $60. Not bad for only $10 a month. If you would like to subscribe, click here to use my referral link. Now, let’s see what products I received.

Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish in I’m Kind of a Big Deal, $15.00

As I stated in my intro, I’m not a fan of anything pink. But, when I opened the box this polish came in, I was pleasantly surprised! The polish was not a bright pink. It was a beautiful dusty rose color. As soon as I saw it, I instantly wanted to change my polish to see what this one looks like on my nails! That’s how the picture above happened. Lol! Another bonus, it’s full size! The only downside is that the polish applied a little streaky. But, it will do for the few days that I will wear it.

Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Primer Oil | full size, $42.00

I have not tried this product yet and I can’t say I will. Since I don’t wear a full face of makeup, I don’t really see the point in applying this to my face. In addition, due to my skin being so sensitive, I definitely won’t be trying it out. But, let me share with you the description of the benefits of this product from the Smashbox website:

• Softens complexion to make foundation look like skin
• Instantly absorbs and adds radiance
• 15 essential and lipid-rich plant oils including moisturizing jojoba and calming chamomile
• Morning and evening application adds increased moisture in just 4 weeks
• Apply a few drops to split-ends, cuticles, elbows and clavicle for a dewy, youthful sheen.

bellapierre Cosmetics Mineral Blush in Desert Rose| 9g jar , $45.00

I have never worn blush before and won’t start today. Mainly because I just don’t feel like adding another product to my routine. But, this pink shade will not complement my skin tone. It will be too light. It would like best on a fairer skin tone. I will have to find someone to give this to.

Promise Organic Argan Creme Facial Lotion| 1.7 oz, $14.99

I can’t say I was excited to receive this facial lotion. As I stated above, my skin is really sensitive so I do not like to try out new products. I did test a little spot along my jaw bone and I noticed my skin broke out a little bit. Which means I definitely didn’t apply it to my entire face, which sucks because from the little I applied, I could tell it was very moisturizing. It also had a pleasant citrus scent that was not overbearing. I would definitely recommend this lotion for people that do not have sensitive skin. And since I can’t use it on my face, I may just use it on my hands so that it doesn’t go to waste!

Vintage by Jessica Liebeskind in Pink Sequin | $21.00

I do not wear lip gloss often anymore due to me wearing lipstick on a daily basis. Well that’s what I thought before this lip gloss entered my life. It is amazing! This lipgloss has a light pink tint to it, almost nude, and it is LOADED with shimmer. But, not the annoying shimmer that you can feel. A very smooth shimmer. It’s so smooth that it makes you think of crushed diamonds. It is extremely moisturizing and even with the gloss being super glossy, it is not sticky. It feels very smooth on your lips. It really is just LOVE! I would’ve never thought that I would like this lip gloss as much as I do, but I am so sold! I will probably purchase it in another color that will be more flattering on my skin tone. The only thing I did not like about this product was the applicator. I thought it would have a doe foot wand applicator. Instead, it had a wand with a thin brush on the end. I think the brush made applying it kind of difficult because the brush seemed flimsy. Maybe on the full size tubes, the brush is a little more sturdy. But, other than that, I would definitely recommend this.

MBA Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lip Color Review

As you can probably tell from reading my blog, I am a huge fan of My Beauty Addiction Cosmetics! They’re products are super affordable and handmade! They sell products ranging from lipsticks to blushes to eyeshadows to highlighters to makeup tools! They pretty much have any makeup product you need!

A few months ago, I purchased two Matte Liquid lip colors. One in Vino and the other in Fame. Vino is a deep, blood red. Fame is a rich, true red. I was excited to try these products as there has been a lot of hype surrounding liquid to matte lip formulas. These each come in a lip gloss tube with a doe foot wand applicator. The applicator makes application pretty easy. However, if you want more precision, you can use a lip brush. In the swatches below, I just used the applicator that came with the products. I thought the colors were absolutely beautiful! They were true representations of what was pictured on the website. The only thing I did not like about the products is how sticky they are once they dry. You cannot rub your lips together or even pat them together once they dry without having them stick to one another. Even when I moisturize my lips prior to applying the lip colors, they are extremely sticky. I do not know about you, but I hate sticky lip products! I will definitely not be wearing these lip colors for an extended period of time.

My Lip Regime

So, I am absolutely crazy about my lips. My lips are my favorite feature on my face. With that said, that means I must take great care of my lips. I am so crazy about my lips that I have about four products that I put on my lips BEFORE applying lipstick. Below I have outlined the products and my process. Enjoy! 🙂

First, I outline the area outside of my natural lip line using the e.l.f. Lip Lock Pencil. I use this to keep my lipstick from feathering or budging outside of my lip line. It sells for $3 on e.l.f.’s website.

Second, I line and fill in my lips using the No Bleeding Lips Secret Lip Liner. It is an invisible liner which I prefer to use as my daily lip liner because I don’t have to worry about finding a lip liner that complements the lip color I am wearing that day. It sells for $15 on Sephora’s website.

Next, I prime my lips using Aquaphor (sold at any drugstore or grocery store and sells for approximately $4) and MAC Prep + Prime Lip, $16.50 on MAC’s website. I probably don’t have to use both, but I started and I just can’t stop. lol! I use both of these to moisturize my lips before applying my lipstick, no matter what kind of lipstick I am using. I do this because my lips dry out really easily, which is even more of a problem when wearing lipstick.

Lastly, I apply my lip color of the day and GO! Easy peasy!

What is your routine for applying your lipsticks and glosses? What products do you use? Let me know in the comments!
